Hash Browns

Terrance LOVES hash browns, and being in Idaho we get a lot of potatoes all the time. We love the dehydrated instant hash browns. But with all the fresh potatoes we get Terrance decided to experiment on how to make instant hash browns ourselves and be able to store them so he can have fresh hash browns all year around. He start taking raw potatoes grating them, and freezing them which turned them purple. Then grating them dipping them in lemon water and freezing them, they still turned a little purple and were watery. Then finally he decided to go back to his original way of making hash browns where he would bake the potatoes, refrigerate them, grate them and then just fry them up. Instead of frying them up right then he put them in zip locks and froze them, we pulled them out a few days later, thawed them, fried them up and ate them. They were great!!

This is what I spent doing for a few hours the day before I turned 24.

~A few days before I baked about 20 LBS of potatoes for 1.5 hours.

~Then threw them in the refrigerator to cool for a couple of days. (While Potatoes are warm or hot they are too soft to shred with out becoming mush. Mush makes great mashed potatoes but not hash browns. We learned this in the beginning of learning to make hash browns).

~I started to shred the potatoes.

~And I kept shredding all the potatoes...it took a long time but I considered it a great work out for my arms.
~About 2 big shredded russet potatoes fit in a sandwich sized zip lock. I had to "fluff " them in the bag. If they are stuffed in then they get mushy and the shredds stick to each other.
~ Filling up the zip locks was my break from shredding. There were so many potatoes that i even ran out of room in one of our freezers that is why my bags are piling up behind my shredder.

~ While I am implementing my husbands way of making and storing hash browns, he was behind me playing with the disposal and getting rid of the many potato peals in multiple different ways.

So that was our adventure for the day.

The summary:
Terrance comes up with ideas and I make them happen. This is really similar to all the stories his mom tells from his childhood businesses. He came up with the ideas and his mom would make it happen and do the hard work in the back ground while he got the money from customers. Lol, Just kidding honey I know you would have done it I just wanted to help you out since you help me all the time.
